Adam Schiff Age: Know His Height, Net Worth, and Personal Life

Adam Schiff is a Democrat from California who has been a congressman since 2001. He is also a lawyer. Before that, from 1996 to 2000, he served in the California State Senate. Schiff served on both the House Foreign Affairs and Intelligence Committees, and he presided over the latter from 2019 to 2023.

How Old is Adam Schiff?

Framingham, Massachusetts is the birthplace of Adam Schiff, whose Jewish parents are Sherrill and Edward. Adam was born on June 22, 1960. His dad was a clothes salesman, while his mom was a real estate agent. After relocating to Scottsdale, Arizona in 1970, the family finally settled in Alamo, California in 1972. Schiff received his secondary education in Danville, California, at Monte Vista High School, where he was elected class salutatorian and played soccer. He continued his education at Stanford University, where he received a BA in politics in 1982. After that, in 1985, Schiff earned a Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School.

Career

Schiff clerked for US District Court for the Central District of California Judge William Matthew Byrne Jr. for a year after he earned his law degree. Afterwards, he was an assistant US attorney for the Central District of California from 1987 up until 1993. While serving in that capacity, Schiff became known for his prosecution of Richard Miller, an ex-FBI agent turned Soviet spy, who was found guilty after a third trial.

Representing California’s 21st district in the state legislature, Schiff was elected in 1996. Throughout his four-year tenure, he presided over the Joint Committee on the Arts, the Judiciary Committee, and the Select Committee on Juvenile Justice. The continuation of the Blue Line light rail project to Pasadena was one of several laws that Schiff drafted and had passed. Along with other lawmakers who shared his reactive “tough on crime” stance, he drafted some contentious but ultimately ineffective laws.

In 2000, Schiff challenged Republican James E. Rogan for California’s 27th congressional seat in the US House of Representatives. In the end, he prevailed, making history as the district’s second Democrat since its creation in 1913. After the district was renumbered to the 29th and became much more Democratic after the 2000 census, Schiff faced few formidable opponents in the years that followed. This led to his eleven consecutive reelections. In 2020, the district will be known as the 30th, and it will have grown even more Democratic since its renumbering in 2010 as the 28th.

Schiff was one of the House members who supported the 2003 invasion of Iraq when he was first elected. His less contentious initiatives included the recognition of the Armenian genocide through US House Resolution 106, the establishment of the nonpartisan and bicameral Congressional Caucus for the Freedom of the Press, and his advocacy for reforms to surveillance practices, such as his Telephone Metadata Reform Act. Schiff served as the head of the House Intelligence Committee later that year (2019). While serving in that capacity, he was one of the primary investigators into the first impeachment investigation of President Trump and also began looking into Trump’s ties to Russia. The Select Committee to Investigate the Attack on the US Capitol on January 6th recruited Schiff later on.

As a pastime, Schiff reportedly wrote screenplays in 2018, including a spy drama and a murder mystery. This information came from the New Yorker. In 2021, he released a nonfiction book titled “Midnight in Washington: How We Almost Lost Our Democracy and Still Could,” which delves into the detrimental impacts of the Trump administration.

After that, he rode his bike from San Francisco to Los Angeles for the AIDS/LifeCycle charity event, among other races in different cities.
