After Amy’s time in the college improv group sparked an interest in comedy in her, she uprooted her life and headed to Chicago to take her first professional improv class at ImprovOlympic. At this period, Poehler crossed paths with Tina Fey. Together, they became members of Second City’s touring company. Poehler later joined the Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB), a troupe that specializes in improv and sketch comedy. Among the four UCB members who relocated to New York City in 1996 was Poehler. Small venues all throughout town hosted performances by the UCB. The sketch comedy show “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” featured multiple appearances by Poehler. Comedy Central premiered UCB’s half-hour sketch comedy series in 1998. It ran for three seasons until it was discontinued in 2000.
