Apara Ekadashi happens in the month of Jyeshtha during the waning phase of the moon (May – June). Lord Krishna conveyed the significance of Apara Ekadashi to Yudhishtira, the eldest Pandava. The primary advantage of observing Apara Ekadasi is the removal of sins. The date of Apara Ekadashi in 2023 is May 15th.
This ekadashi is known as ‘Apara Ekadashi’ because the term ‘apar’ in Hindi means ‘unlimited,’ and it is thought that practising this vrat will result in endless prosperity. Apara Ekadashi is celebrated as “Bhadrakali Ekadashi” in Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, and Haryana, and worshipping Goddess Bhadra Kali on this day is considered auspicious. It is known as “Jalakrida Ekadashi” in Orissa and is celebrated in honour of Lord Jagannath.

Rituals of Apara Ekadashi
1. On Dashmi, the day preceding Apara Ekadashi, do not consume food after sundown. While sleeping at night, repeat the name of God.
2.On the day of Ekadashi, after an early morning bath, worship Lord Vishnu. For the pujan, one should offer Tulsi, Chandan, Gangajal, and fruits.
3. The one who fasts on this day must not be deceptive, evil, or tell lies. In addition, rice is not consumed on this day.
4. Recite ‘Vishnu Sahasranama’. On Ekadashi, whomever recites the “Vishnu Sahasranama” is immensely blessed by the lord himself.

Importance of Apara Ekadasi
There is a common idea that observing this Srihari-dedicated fast will aid in the acquisition of immense fortune. Apara signifies in huge quantity or number, and hence all sins are eradicated by fasting.
Fasting on this Ekadashi is useful for those afflicted with remorse or guilt as a result of sin or sins committed. Moksha can be attained through fasting on Apara Ekadasi. In addition, Krishna adds that those who follow this specific Ekadashi shall attain fame by their good activities.
This Ekadasi eliminates the regret linked with not taking a specific activity when the individual had the ability to do so but chose not to.
