Famous American rapper and music producer goes by the name ASAP Rocky. Along with his fellow members of the hip-hop collective “ASAP Mob,” he was given the moniker. When was ASAP Rocky Born?

The Harlem district of Manhattan was the site of Rakim Athelstone Mayers’ birth on October 3, 1988. His father was born and raised in Barbados. Besides Rocky’s late older brother, there was an older sister named Erika. It just so happens that his cousin is ASAP Nast, another member of the ASAP Mob.

When Mayers was nine years old, his family relocated to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and he began rapping. In addition to sporting the same Cornrows cut that A$AP Mayers would adopt, Rocky’s older brother was the one who taught him how to rhyme. At thirteen years old, Mayer’s brother was assassinated in Harlem. The loss made Mayers take rapping more seriously. While Mayers was a kid, he loved the rap team The Diplomats from Harlem. He was also influenced by Run DMC, Wu-Tang Clan, UGG Deep, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, and Three 6 Mafia.

After his father was incarcerated when Mayers was twelve years old, he and his sister and mother spent their teenage years moving between homeless shelters. Following his mother’s stint in a New York City shelter, A$AP moved to Midtown Manhattan. He lost his dad in 2012.

Career

Rocky began rapping at a young age, influenced by his older brother. After becoming a member of the “ASAP Mob” gang in Harlem in 2007, he started going by the alias “ASAP.” His first single, “Purple Swag,” which dropped in July 2011, became an instant hit in New York City and launched him into the rap industry.

His August 2011 internet leak single “Peso” was quickly featured on New York’s famous Hot 97 radio station. But he was already a star in the eyes of record labels after “Purple Swag” became a big hit. The name of Rocky’s mixtape is “Live Love.” A$AP’ prior to settling on a three million dollar arrangement with Polo Grounds Music and RCA Records.

The 2012 Pitchfork Music Festival had a stop for ASAP. Later that year, he contributed a rap verse to Rihanna’s “Cockiness (Love It)” on the MTV Video Music Awards.

He reached number eight on the Billboard 100 with the release of his solo album “Long Live Asap” in January 2013, which sold three million copies in the United States.

“Dope,” a comic drama from 2014, featured him briefly. The next year, on June 12, it had its theatrical release after screening at the Sundance Film Festival. Singles “D.M.B.” (published in May) and “Shittin’ Me” (issued in December) were Mayers’ releases in 2022. Also, he was featured on Metro Boomin’s Heroes & Villains album track “Feel the Fiyaaaah” from December. He went on to say that they were planning to release an album in the future featuring production by Metro Boomin. Later that month, he announced the name of his forthcoming fourth studio album: Don’t Be Dumb.

Rocky was in a relationship with rapper Iggy Azalea from 2011 to 2012. He was briefly involved with model Chanel Iman from 2013 to 2014. In May of 2021, Rocky came clean about his relationship with Rihanna. During the halftime show of Super Bowl LVII, Rihanna announced that she was having a second child with the couple, who had a son in May 2022.
