Bahula Chaturthi 2023 Date, Rituals, and Significance
Bahula Chaturthi, also called Bol Choth Vrat, is an Indian cultural holiday where farmers, especially women, celebrate their cattle. During the lucky month of Shraavana, the event takes place. The festival is held all over the country, but in the state of Gujarat, a day before Nag Pancham (not Nag Panchami), it is done with great respect. On this day, people honor cows and calves. On Bahula Chaturthi, people who fast all day and pray to cows in the evening are thought to get lucky. On this day, people who believe that only calves have the right to drink cow milk don’t drink milk or eat milk products. Suabhis are pictures or statues of Lord Krishna that show how much He loves cows. Devotees pray to and worship these Suabhis. All over Gujarat, the farming groups get up early in the morning. On occasion, both the sheds and the cattle are washed very well. Rice is used to make tasty treats that are given to the cattle.

- In the evening, you can pray to cows and calves (Godhuli Puja Timing is shown in the table). If you don’t have cows or calves, you can pray to a picture of a mother cow.
