Career

For her television debut in 1955, Barbara appeared on “The Johnny Carson Show.” Afterwards, she had guest appearances on other episodes, including “The West Point Story,” “Highway Patrol,” “Private Secretary,” “I Love Lucy,” “The Millionaire,” “Target: The Corruptors!,” “Perry Mason,” “Father Knows Best,” “The Andy Griffith Show,” and “Route 66.” Her four guest appearances on “Burke’s Law,” in which she performed a variety of roles, also brought her fame. It was in 1957 that she made her acting debut in “How to Marry a Millionaire.”

Mark Robson, a filmmaker, saw her in a play with James Drury and recognized potential in her, so he brought her into the film industry. In subsequent times, Robson set up a 20th Century Fox screen test for her in the picture “No Down Payment.” The studio extended a contract to her even though she was not cast in the role for which she had auditioned.
