Rituals of Bhadrapada Purnima
- On Bhadrapada Purnima, devotees wake up early to perform their morning rituals. It is thought that worshippers receive blessings from the Lord Vishnu by bathing in a sacred river like the Ganga or the Narmada.
- On Bhadrapada Purnima, Satyanarayan Puja is frequently performed in the majority of houses.
- Lord Satyanarayana’s idol is covered in panchamrit (Mixture of honey, curd, sugar, ghee & Milk). The devotees also present Lord Satyanarayana with sweets and fruits.
- Reciting the Satyanarayan Katha, which is seen to be extremely auspicious, at one’s home or another’s home after Puja is crucial. The followers also recite the legends of the gods Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, and Lakshmi.
- On this day, a large number of devotees also observe the Bhadrapada Purnima Vrat. Only fruits and milk items may be consumed during the daylong fast. Salt, grains, and pulses are off limits for the fast-keeping adherents on this day.
- The “Maha Mrityunjay Havan” should be performed on Bhadrapada Purnima day.
- According to legend, followers who execute the havan are able to banish all negativity from their lives.

Celebration on Bhadrapada Purnima
Folk dances are performed in the Ambaji Devi temple to appease the goddess Amba Devi and get her blessing for the devotees’ prosperity and good health. According to Indian mythology, when Lord Vishnu sliced open Sati Devi’s body, her heart fell in the same spot where the temple was later erected.
Significance of Bhadrapada Purnima
Every Hindu lunar month has an Amavasya (No Moon) and a Purnima (Full Moon) day, according to Hindu mythology and the calendar. The ancient Hindu mythology regards Purnima as having a very high sacred value. The Bhadrapada Purnima is highly revered since it is connected to the worship of Lord Vishnu. The beginning of Pitru Paksha Shraddha occurs the day after Bhadrapada Purnima.
This day is seen to be particularly lucky for performing the Grih Pravesh ceremony and is revered and honoured by Lord Vishnu’s devotees. On this day, devotees pray to Lord Vishnu for his blessings so that their lives can improve.
