Engvall relocated to Southern California in 1990 to devote himself full-time to stand-up comedy, a passion that had been growing in him for some time. He was hired to co-host “A Pair of Jokers” with Rosie O’Donnell on the cable comedy show not long after. His other TV appearances include “The Golden Palace,” in which he was Blanche’s son. Shows like “The Tonight Show,” “Late Show with David Letterman,” and “An Evening at The Improv” were among the ones he started booking appearances on.

When the American Comedy Awards were held in 1992, Engvall was crowned the winner for Best Male Standup. His career and fame were both propelled by this. Quickly thereafter, he was cast as a regular on the ABC series “Delta.” Engvall resumed his stand-up comedy career after the show’s brief run ended. He later appeared on “The Jeff Foxworthy Show” in 1996 alongside fellow comedian and best buddy Jeff Foxworthy.

The same year saw the successful release of his debut comedy album, which he had signed to Warner Bros. Records. Thanks to its cooperation with vocalist Travis Tritt, the album “Here’s Your Sign” reached number five on the Billboard country album chart and was certified platinum. Eight more comedy albums came out of him in the decades that followed.

The first of six Blue Collar Comedy Tours, which began in 2000 with Engvall and Foxworthy, also featured Larry the Cable Guy and Ron White as performers. All of the tours were huge hits, and they even spawned a TV series and radio broadcast called “Blue Collar TV.”

Engvall has also hosted the 2011 revival of the game show “Lingo” on the GSN network. He was motivated to accept the position after seeing how well his friend, Foxworthy, did on “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?”

With professional dancer Emma Slater as his partner, Engvall competed in “Dancing with the Stars” in 2013. Although Engvall started the season off strong, he spent the majority of the season ranked dead last or second to last. But his loyal fan base allowed him to stay on the show for a lot longer than the other contenders with higher scores. He advanced to the finals, where he finished in fourth place.
