Carlile published her self-titled debut album in 2005 to rave reviews, after starting out performing in Seattle music venues with twin musicians Phil and Tim Hanseroth. She then went on tour with the Hanseroth brothers, refining the songs for her second album, “The Story.” Launching the popular single of the same name, “The Story”—produced by T Bone Burnett—peaked at number 41 on the Billboard 200. The 2009 launch of Carlile’s subsequent album, “Give Up the Ghost,” peaked at number 26 on the Billboard 200. Benmont Tench, Amy Ray, Chad Smith, and Elton John were among the artists who collaborated on it.

“Live at Benaroya Hall with the Seattle Symphony,” Carlile’s debut live CD, was released in 2011. His 2012 follow-up, “Bear Creek,” reached a Billboard 200 peak of number 10.
