Career

With his pal Pimp C, Bun B formed the rap group UGK, and their career took off. They collaborated to produce a new style of Southern hip-hop that was all their own, with catchy hooks, heavy bass, and meaningful lyrics. Their 1992 debut album, “Too Hard to Swallow,” revealed their unpolished abilities and laid the groundwork for their subsequent achievements.

“Super Tight,” UGK’s 1994 sophomore album, was critically and commercially successful. Hits like “Front, Back & Side to Side” and “It’s Supposed to Bubble” are sampled from the album.

While he was still a member of UGK, Bun B worked with a number of famous musicians, adding his talents and unique sound to their tracks. “Big Pimpin'” features Jay-Z, “International Players Anthem (I Choose You)” features OutKast, and “Sippin’ on Some Syrup” has Three 6 Mafia, among other significant collaborations.

Bun B departed from the group in 2002 to pursue solo work. Reason being, his bandmate Pimp C, the late Chad Butler, was given a prison term. Bun B was a frequent guest on other rappers’ albums for a while. During this time, he worked with musicians including Yung Joc, Paul Wall, and Webbie. The artist then dropped his 2005 mixtape “Legends” later that year.

Bun B’s debut solo effort, “Trill,” was released that same year in October. Popular tracks from the album include “Draped Up,” “Git It,” and “Get Throwed.” Bun B’s solo career was solidified with the release of “Trill,” which peaked at number one on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums list and number six on the American Billboard 200 chart.

Bun B resumed his solo career following the tragic death of Pimp C in 2007. His 2008 sophomore album, “II Trill,” had the smash hits “That’s Gangsta” and “Damn I’m Cold.” With its 98,000 first-week sales, “II Trill” soared to number two on the Billboard 200.

Bun B’s third studio album, 2010’s “Trill OG,” followed. The album was published under the Universal Music Group label and includes collaborations with numerous artists. It was a demonstration of Bun B’s unwavering commitment to his work and his talent for making captivating music.
