When Burton first entered the broadcasting industry in 1989, she was a co-host on the nationally syndicated weekly series “MBR: The Minority Business Report” at Chicago’s WGN-TV. After relocating to Peoria, Illinois in 1990, she found employment as a reporter for WMBD-TV.
She worked as a news anchor in Wichita, Kansas, for KWCH-DT from 1990 until 1992. Beginning in 1992, Burton served as a weekend co-anchor and reporter for WLS-TV. Along with Kathy Brock and Ron Magers, she became a contributing anchor at 10 p.m. in 2003 and a co-anchor at 5 p.m. on weekdays.
Burton was a cheerleader and TV personality. She cheered for the Chicago Bears for three years, from 1983 to 1986, as a member of the Chicago Honey Bears squad.
