It was in 1972 with a bit part opposite Sean Connery in “The Anderson Tapes” that Walken first appeared in a feature film. He played a psychopathic American soldier in the science fiction picture “The Happiness Cage,” which was his first leading role, that same year. After that, he appeared in “Next Stop, Greenwich Village” (1976) and “Annie Hall” (1977), both directed by Woody Allen.
