Career

When Danny finished college in 1998, he uprooted his life and headed west to pursue a career in movies. Instead of acting, he preferred writing and directing. Before being employed as a cinematographer for VH1’s “Behind the Music” and the History Channel, he worked as a waiter and night manager of the Holiday Inn in Burbank. One of his closest pals from college, David Gordon Green, called him in 2003.

One of the actors in Green’s independent feature “All the Real Girls” had just left the set. Green phoned McBride and offered him the part because he was the funniest man he knew. In order to shoot in North Carolina for the film, McBride left his job. Director and producer Danny Best was joined by Jody Hill and Ben Best in 2006 for “The Foot Fist Way.” When Danny’s wife has an affair with her boss, his life as a tae kwon do instructor takes a nosedive. It had a successful run at 2006’s Sundance Film Festival. A production company associated with Will Ferrell and Adam McKay acquired the picture.

Three writers—McBride, Hill, and Best—created the HBO series “Eastbound & Down.” In the role of Kenny Powers, a former professional baseball player who struggles with anger management, McBride co-starred with Katy Mixon. Former Major League Baseball player John Rocker was alluding to the character to a certain extent. The program had 29 episodes across its four seasons. The 2016–2017 HBO comedy series “Vice Principals” also featured McBride.

Rumor has it that McBride is set to star in a film titled “Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home.” According to the teaser, the film will follow on from the “Crocodile Dundee” series. Hugh Jackman and Chris Hemsworth were among the many Australian actors who participated. The supposed trailers were actually a part of a Tourism Australia Super Bowl ad, so it was all an elaborate fake.

The 2018 sequel to 1978’s “Halloween” was co-written by McBride and David Gordon Green. In addition to his work on “Halloween Ends” (2021) and “Halloween Kills” (2020), he also served as a consultant on both films.

Hollywood bought McBride’s new series, “The Righteous Gemstones,” in the latter half of 2018. The comedic sitcom follows the exploits of a famous televangelist family that has a checkered past that includes both philanthropy and scandal. “Hot Rod,” “The Heartbreak Kid,” “Superbad,” “This is the End,” “Despicable Me,” “Alien Covenant,” and countless more big-budget features have included Danny.
