Paan (Betel Leaves)
People in UP and Bihar think it’s lucky to eat paan on Dussehra. People believe that Kumbhakana and Meghnath ate betel leaves on this day to celebrate Lord Ram’s victory over Ravana. Lord Hanuman was also given paan as a gift.
Rasgulla
The Delicious Rasgulla is a must-have on Dussehra. This sweet is popular in West Bengal, where it is believed to bring good luck.
Kheer and Dal Paratha
In Uttar Pradesh (UP), a festival isn’t complete without Dal Paratha and Kheer. During the morning prayer of Dussehra, parathas made with cooked chana dal, carom seeds, and salt are given to the deity along with rice kheer. Dahi
In India, it’s a tradition to eat Dahi-cheeni before starting something new. It is thought that this will bring good luck. The same thing happens during the Dussehra festival too. Curd is also offered to Goddess Durga.
Sweet Dosa
On Dussehra and Saraswati Puja, sweet Dosa is given as Prasadam in South India, especially in the state of Karnataka. It is made with coconut, jaggery, rice flour, and wheat flour. It is considered lucky to eat it on Vijayadashmi.
