How Much PDA is Fine? The Laxman Rekha which all PDA Couples Should know
Public displays of affection, also known as PDA, is arguably one of the most controversial topics when discussing relationships.
There will always be public displays of affection between couples. However, PDA can occasionally be inappropriate.
Here are a few considerations the PDA couple must make:
Things to take Care of as a PDA Couple
- PDA is acceptable if you are holding hands, putting your arm around your partner, or kissing someone briefly, but anything beyond that is inappropriate. It’s not that you can’t display affection in public, but anything that lingers too long or is too risqué (such as touching below the neck) could make others feel uncomfortable.
- You are free to do whatever you want with your partner as long as it is consensual, but if you are in a public place, you cannot know if the others around you consent to observe your behaviour. The people around you have the right to “consent” (or not “consent”) to your actions. And if you are told to stop, you must stop.
- Location Matters: In a mall, restaurant, or grocery store line, there are lights and children. No one anticipates seeing a couple becoming closer. However, if you are in an adult-only area, such as dark movie theatre or a bar, light-to-moderate public shows of affection may be acceptable.
