On the 11th day of the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the moon) of the Bhadrapad month in Gujarat, Jal Jhulni Ekadasi, also known as Jal Jhilani or Jal Jhulani Gyaras, is observed.

The date for Jal Jhilani Ekadashi 2023 is September 25.

Parivartini Ekadasi is the name given to this Ekadasi. Jal Zilani, or Jal Jilni, is a popular name in Gujarat, especially within the Swaminarayan sect. In Rajasthan, it is also known as Dol Gyaras Ekadasi and is celebrated in a number of temples.

According to legend, on Jal Jhilani Ekadashi day, Lord Vishnu, who was sleeping during the Chaturmas era, moved sideways from his supine position.

How is Jal Jhulni Ekadasi celebrated ?

  1. On this day, some devotees practise a severe fast. They don’t drink water. On the day of Ekadasi fasting, however, the majority of devotees follow the regular guidelines.
  2. An idol of Lord Krishna is transported to a lake or river and worshipped as part of the day’s puja.
  3. On the river, the idol is often taken on a boat excursion.
  4. Some people also take the Ganesha idol that was installed as part of the Ganesh Chaturthi event and immerse it in a lake or river on the day of the festival.
  5. It is important to note that Ganesh Chaturthi begins five days before Jal Zilani Ekadashi. As a result, on this day, some people immerse Lord Ganesha.
