At the age of five, Finch’s parents enrolled her in T-ball, and that was when she began playing softball. It took her only three years after that to begin pitching. In her final year of high school, Finch captained the softball team at La Mirada High School in California, her hometown.
Finch studied communications at the University of Arizona. Finch started her 2000 season as a sophomore with a 21-game winning run, and in 1999 she pitched her first no-hitter as a professional. She and her teammates advanced to the World Series for the third consecutive year as juniors, and Finch was honored with the title of Pitcher of the Year during her senior year.
