Secada started teaching at Miami Dade College in 1986, after completing his undergraduate degree. Emilio Estefan, a member of the Miami Sound Machine and Gloria Estefan’s husband, was introduced to him by some acquaintances the same year. Estefan consented to hear a demo by Secada, and he really enjoyed it. He later consented to take on the roles of music manager and mentor to Secada. Secada also joined Miami Sound Machine’s backing vocal group.
When Secada’s contract with Miami Dade College expired in 1991, he resigned. “Coming Out of the Dark,” Gloria Estefan’s smash single that year, was co-written by him. His voice were featured on the track as well. With the song’s success, Secada was able to gain a larger fan base. The 1992 self-titled debut album he put out went on to sell seven million copies. His 1992 sophomore album, “Otra Dia Mas Sin Verte,” and 1994 triple album, “Heart, Soul & a Voice,” were both issued by him.
