Career
After Julian began playing in 1998 with Hammond, Moretti, Valensi, and bassist Nikolai Fraiture, they created the band The Strokes the following year. Their 2001 debut album “Is This It” was well-received by critics and listeners alike, launching the band to stardom in the same vein as fellow rock acts like Yeah Yeah Yeahs and White Stripes. Following the release of “Room on Fire” in 2003 and “First Impressions of Earth” in 2006, the band’s popularity grew and they went on tour. Unfortunately, following their debut, none of their subsequent albums achieved anywhere near the same level of sales or critical praise.

Unfortunately, following their debut, none of their subsequent albums achieved anywhere near the same level of sales or critical praise.
The band’s fourth studio album, 2011’s “Angles,” marked their return after a five-year hiatus. Rumor has it that they went on a five-year break due to problems with sobriety, solo ventures, and internal strife. After the release of “Angles,” they were the featured acts at numerous music festivals, such as Austin City Limits, Coachella, and Lollapalooza. On Casablancas’ own label, Cult Records, the band dropped “Comedown Machine” in 2013 and an extended play titled “Future Present Past” in 2016. Bilbao BBK Live was the 2019 global return performance that The Strokes headlined. In May of 2019, they dropped a teaser for an upcoming album, and in April of 2020, they dropped “The New Abnormal,” which would go on to win the band their first Grammy for Best Rock Album.
In 2013, Julian established the Voidz. Casablancas is the frontman, with guitar players Jeramy “Beardo” Gritter and Amir Yaghmai, bassist Jacob “Jake” Bercovici (who also plays a synthesizer), drummer Alex Carapetis, and keyboardist Jeff Kite rounding out the band. The Voidz embarked on a cross-country tour after the release of their debut album “Tyranny” in September 2014 under Julian’s label Cult Records. The album’s lead hit, “Human Sadness,” clocks in at eleven minutes. Released on March 30, 2018, was their second album, “Virtue.” Includes the 2018 Adult Swim song “Coul as a Ghoul” and the album’s featured tune “Pyramid of Bones,” which premiered on the network in April.
Casablancas pursued a solo career while still a member of the Strokes. In November 2009, his debut solo effort, “Phrazes for the Young,” was released. Mike Mogim of Bright Eyes and producer Jason Lader were his collaborators on the album. New wave and electronica were major influences on the album, and Julian made extensive use of synths on numerous tracks. At an exclusive event in Tokyo, Japan, he performed solo for the first time at an event hosted by the fashion label Opening Ceremony.
The debut of Julian’s new extended play (EP) in October 2009 was marked by a string of concerts at Los Angeles’s Downtown Palace Theatre. The original song “I Like the Night” was written by Casablancas and was commissioned by Azzaro’s Decibel db, a men’s fragrance, for use in an advertising campaign. On September 1, 2011, the commercial featuring Julian was broadcast in France. From May 2016 through February 2017, the vocalist appeared on Sirius XMU’s monthly music show “Culture Void” to choose and share music.
