Lita was enlisted by the all-female rock band The Runaways in 1975 by record producer Kim Fowley when she was sixteen years old. The band’s self-titled debut album came out in March 1976 after they signed with Mercury Records in 1976. The album peaked at #31 on the Kent Music Report in Australia and #194 on the “Billboard” 200 chart. In addition to being certified silver in the UK, the single “Cherry Bomb” / “Blackmail” peaked at #57 on Australia’s Kent Music Report and #6 on “Billboard” Bubbling Under Hot 100.

The Runaways released “Queens of Noise” in 1977, “Waitin’ for the Night” in 1978, and “And Now… The Runaways” in 1979, following their successful debut. “Queens of Noise” peaked at #34 on the Swedish Albums list, “Kent Music Report” reached #36 in Australia, “RPM” reached #83 in Canada, and the “Billboard” 200 list at #172. “Waitin’ for the Night” achieved #28 on the Swedish Albums Chart. The “Heartbeat” / “Neon Angels on the Road to Ruin” single from 1977 peaked at #10 on the “Billboard” Bubbling Under Hot 100 track. Ford and drummer Sandy West preferred the band’s signature hard rock sound, but lead singer and guitarist Joan Jett preferred a punk rock style inspired by The Ramones. As a result, the band broke up in April 1979.

With her 1982 solo album, “Out for Blood,” released in 1983, Lita became a Mercury Records artist. In 1984, she released “Dancin’ on the Edge,” her subsequent album, which peaked at #96 on the UK Albums list and #66 on the “Billboard” 200 list. After Sharon Osbourne took over as manager of Ford in 1988, the album “Lita” was published. It peaked at #29 on the “Billboard” 200 list and went platinum in the US and gold in Canada. With “Kiss Me Deadly” hitting number one in four countries and “Back to the Cave” and “Falling in and Out of Love” reaching number two and thirty-seven, respectively, on the “Billboard” Mainstream Rock chart, all four of the album’s singles were successful.

As an additional track, Lita’s collaboration with Ozzy Osbourne on “Close My Eyes Forever” peaked at #8 on the “Billboard” Hot 100 chart, #25 on the “Billboard” Album Rock Tracks chart, #14 on the Swedish Sverigetopplistan chart, and #16 on New Zealand’s Recorded Music NZ chart. “Stiletto” (1990), “Dangerous Curves” (1991), and “Black” (1995) were the following albums that Ford released. “Dangerous Curves” was a hit in the United States and the United Kingdom, and “Stiletto” reached the top of the charts in six countries.

The 1991 single “Shot of Poison” peaked at #45 on the “Billboard” Hot 100 list and was nominated for a Grammy. Following the success of “Black,” Lita devoted herself to motherhood and did not produce another studio album until 2009’s “Wicked Wonderland.” Following this, in 2012, Ford released “Living Like a Runaway,” an album that peaked at #38 on the “Billboard” Independent Albums chart.
