DeMarco, who was a resident of the Killarney neighborhood in his late teens, self-produced his first album, Hot Wave.The next year, in 2009, he sold out an entire run of 500 copies of his song. During this time, DeMarco was also making his psychedelic visual art.
Unknown Records signed DeMarco, Jane Clement, and Alex Calder to a group in 2009.
