The Hindu month of Magha is when Magha Amavasya, also known as Maghi Amavasya, falls; thus, the name Magha Amavasya. It is also referred to as Mauni Amavasya since it is the day for observing Maun Vrat.

Magha Amavasya Vrat & Rituals
- Take a morning dip in a river, lake, or sacred reservoir on the day of Mauni Amavasya.
- Offerings must be made to the Sun after bathing.
- On this day of fasting, keep quiet. Give the hungry and needy food.
- Provide food for the cow in the cowshed as well as grains, clothing, til, amla, blankets, bedding, and ghee.
- Donate a cow, some gold, or perhaps some land if your finances are secure.
- On Magha Amavasya, just like every other Amavasya, one should commemorate their ancestors.
- On this day, paying homage to the ancestors offers them salvation.
Magh Amavasya Importance
It aids in finding serenity, determining one’s level of patience, and exercising self-control. This day aids in raising one’s spiritual consciousness, and pure discourse is necessary for spiritual development. It is very beneficial to practise silence in order to develop speech purity. It aids in energy conservation and the removal of harmful energies. It also aids in managing anger and the words one chooses to use before speaking. On this day, taking a holy bath in one of the holy rivers is also advised. It is thought that taking a holy dip cleanses the mind of all sins and unfavourable thoughts.
On this day, all Devas are present in the holy rivers. Strict silence should be maintained while taking a bath. On this day, Gayatri Mantra is said while honouring Lord Brahma. Pitru Puja is another important ceremony to be performed on this day (ancestral worship). Giving food to sick humans and animals is regarded as being extremely beneficial. On this day, it is also highly fortunate to offer Til oil to Shani dev.
