Mekhi Phifer is a multi-talented African-American who rose to fame playing the part of Dr. Greg Pratt on the hit medical drama ER. His many cameos in the music videos for songs by Eminem, like “Just Lose It,” “Lose Yourself,” and “Without Me,” can also bring him to your memory.

In Harlem, New York City, on December 29, 1974, Phifer changed his name to Mekhi Phifer. Rhoda Phifer, a high school teacher, reared him and his twin brother as a single mom.

His mother had a significant impact on him since she forbade him and his siblings from participating in the same criminal activities as their friends. To make ends meet, Phifer started working odd jobs when he was thirteen years old.

In 1994, Phifer completed her high school education at Lincoln Square Auxiliary Services. He went on to study electrical engineering at NY State University after finishing high school. With his cousin as an extra, he responded to Spike Lee’s “Clockers” open casting call when he was busy working on a rap record. Phifer has never really wanted to be an actress. As a child, he appeared in a Harlem Christmas carol performance as the specter of the Christmas present, which was his sole acting experience.
