History of Parumala Perunnal
South India’s Parumala is essentially a small village situated on the banks of the Pampa River.
Once upon a time, a distinguished saint by the name of Malankara Metropolitan Joseph Mar Dionysius traversed these very lands. He was born in Kunnamkulam, and people had a great deal of respect for him due to his enormous wisdom and mystic aura. He had a vision to establish a seminary in this location for the greater benefit of humanity.
Consequently, Arikupurathu Mathen Karnavar gave him a two-acre plot of land for this purpose. This parcel of land was utilized specifically for the construction of the Azhippura building, which was used to teach the Syriac language. Thus, over time, Dionysius ultimately delegated Mar Gregorios the responsibility of carrying out his teachings effectively.
