The Lady & Sons, Deen’s restaurant, first opened on West Congress Street in downtown Savannah in January 1996. A few years later, it relocated to a historic building on Whitaker. In 1999, “USA Today” honored The Lady & Sons as the “International Meal of the Year.” Deen was also the owner of four buffets in Harrah’s casinos: the one in Mississippi, the one in North Carolina, the one in Southern Indiana, and the one in Illinois, Harrah’s Joliet. Having said that, 2013 saw a rebranding of all these buffets. Uncle Bubba’s Oyster House, which she co-owned in Savannah, Georgia, went through a “abrupt closure” in April 2014 and reopened in June 2017 as Paula Deen’s Creek House, was also affected by this. The network awarded Deen her own show after she wowed them during the filming of a pilot called “Afternoon Tea” in early 2001. Gordon Elliott was the show’s executive producer when “Paula’s Home Cooking” debuted in November 2002 on the Food Network. Millbrook, New York was the site of the show’s original tapings, but her Savannah, Georgia, home became the site of production in November 2005. In June 2007, Deen was honored with a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lifestyle Host for her program “Paula’s Home Cooking.”

The Food Network declared that they would not be renewing Deen’s contract following an incident in 2013 in which she acknowledged using racist insults in a social media post during a deposition for a lawsuit. After that, Paula revealed her plans to launch her own network in September 2014. On March 11, 2015, the Paula Deen Channel debuted on Roku. By October of 2016, Deen had debuted her syndicated television program, “Positively Paula.”
On top of that, Deen competed in “Dancing with the Stars” for the 21st season in 2015, where she placed ninth overall. She also makes frequent appearances on Evine, a home shopping network, where she offers a diverse range of products, including apparel, culinary items, and kitchen appliances.
