According to Hindu traditions, Rama Ekadashi is one of the most auspicious and prominent Ekadashis. The Hindu calendar states that Rama Ekadashi occurs on the eleventh day of the Kartik month, which is the Krishna Paksha. It occurs four days before the Diwali celebrations and is also known by other names like Rambha Ekadashi or Kartik Krishna Ekadashi. The Rama Ekadashi Vrat is one of the most important Ekadashi fasts celebrated in the Hindu religion because those who observe it religiously can have all of their sins forgiven.

Rituals of Rama Ekadashi

  • The fasting ritual begins on Dashmi, which is one day before Ekadashi. The watchers are only permitted to eat satvik cuisine on this specific day and are not permitted to eat any cereals or rice. After sunrise, no food is allowed for the watchers.
  • Observers refrain from eating or drinking anything for the entire day on the eve of Ekadashi. The next day, or the 12th day of the lunar month, known as Dwadashi at the time of Parana, marks the end of the fast.
  • The observant rise early on the Rama Ekadashi eve, take a holy bath, and then offer prayers to Lord Vishnu.
    During the Puja, flowers, fruits, special bhog, and other necessary items are offered to the deity. All of the devotees receive prasad (holy food) when the aarti is finished.
  • On this day, the worshippers keep vigil all night long, singing bhajans and engaging in kirtans while listening to the praises of Lord Vishnu.
  • On this day, worshippers also pay homage to Goddess Lakshmi since the term is a representation of her. During the nocturnal vigil, the devotees also read from the Bhagavad Gita.

Significance and Benefits of Rama Ekadashi Vrat

  • According to Hindu doctrine and sacred texts like the Brahma Vaivarta Purana, those who observe the Rama Ekadashi fast are purified of all their previous transgressions.
  • The worshippers who hear about Lord Vishnu’s splendour now get redemption.
  • The benefits of keeping this vrat are far more than those of doing the several Ashwamedha Yagnas and Rajasuya Yagna.
  • Those who observe this fast with devotion are able to achieve great success in all aspects of their lives.
