Rishi Panchami Rituals
All of Rishi Panchami’s customs and rituals must be carried out with good intentions and a pure heart. Individual intentions have an important part in the purification of the body and the soul.
- Devotees rise early in the morning and take a holy bath shortly afterward. On this day, people follow a strict Rishi Panchami fast.
- The main goal of this fast is to thoroughly sanctify an individual.
- People do a variety of things, including brushing their teeth with upmarga (herb) and bathing in the datwarn plant.
- All of these plants are used to purify the outside of the body, and a mixture of butter, basil, milk, and curd is also sipped to purify the soul.
- Devotees worship the Saptrishi of the seven great sages, which is the last part of all the rites, on this day.
- Prayers and a variety of sacred items, including as flowers and food delicacies, are offered to invoke the presence of the seven sages. Vashishtha, Jamadagmi, Gauthama, Vishvamitra, Bharadvaja, Atri, and Kashyapa are the names of the renowned Saptarishis.
On the day of Rishi Panchami, the worship mantra is…
‘कश्यपोत्रिर्भरद्वाजो विश्वामित्रोथ गौतमः।
जमदग्निर्वसिष्ठश्च सप्तैते ऋषयः स्मृताः॥
दहन्तु पापं सर्व गृह्नन्त्वर्ध्यं नमो नमः’॥
Significance of Rishi Panchami
It is said to honour Sapta Rishi’s Seven Sages, Kashyap, Atri, Bharadwaj, Vishwamitra, Gautam, Janadagni, and Vashishtha. Women should visit a river or any water reservoir in the afternoon to observe this Vrata, bringing cow dung with them, brushing their teeth with a medicinal herbal stick, and taking a cold-water bath.
They should place Saptarshi’s idol on a tiny wooden pedestal shaped like seven beetle nuts and perform pooja. This is how the method is explained. Sitasale, a specific monarch, requested that Brahma inform him of a fast that would yield the quickest results. Brahma said that the Rishi Panchami fast was the only one that cleansed away all sins.
