Rory joined the Marine Corps after high school and served for eight years. Rory is happy to have served his country, but he has always loved music, which is why he came back to look for it after his service. He went to Dallas, Texas, to follow his dreams. Rory decided to start his career in Texas because it has a strong music scene. In the middle of the 1990s, he rented a room in Dallas in the hopes of finding an agent or more people to work with.

He got ideas for songs from Merle Haggard, Don Williams, and many other artists. Rory lived in Dallas, Texas, after getting out of the Marine Corps. After Texas, in 1995, he went to Nashville because Rod Phelps, an attorney for Nashville Entertainment, told him to. He got a publishing deal in Nashville. Soon after, as a composer, he put out his first track. Someone You Knew by Collin’s rate was one of his early songs. The song did well with both critics and fans, and it even made it into the top five country songs of all time. He also helped write Clay Walker’s top five country song “The Chain of Love.”

He has written songs for many other acts, such as Tracey Byrd, Lorrie Morgan, Mark Wills, Terri Clark, and Randy Travis. He got his first number one hit by writing “A Bit of a Beach” for Blake Shelton with Paul Overstreet. This was despite all of his other success as a songwriter.

Giantslayer Records was started by Rory Feek in 2004 to help independent bands and performing artists get noticed.

Joey + Rory signed with Vanguard Records after coming in third place on C un votre duo. Their first song, “Cheater,” was a hit, and they soon after released another one. Soon after, Rory co-wrote the song “I Will” with Jimmy Wayne and it also made it to the charts.

After ten years, Rory married Joey Martin Feek, and the two of them formed the band Joey + Rory. In 2014, they had their first child together. Indiana Boon, Joey’s daughter, was born with Down syndrome.

Joey Feek died on March 4, 2016, from cervical cancer that had spread.
