Never Forget These 4 Rules Before Befriending Your Boss
A Silly behaviour that a lot of employees have is attempting to win over the boss. Bosses, too, have boundaries, though! Sometimes a boss you thought was pleasant turns out to be the one who backstabs you during reviews or just loves to draw the line and come to work only to get the job done.
It is therefore best to follow these 4 rules before you decide to become friends with your boss:-
Rule 1
Being friendly and being friends are two distinct things
Do not mistake politeness for friendship. If your boss is polite to you, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they want to be friends. Making friends takes time, and not all employers are who they seem to be. They might even decide to draw a line and just be warm people.
Rule 2
Your personal affairs are solely YOUR concerns
No matter how pleasant or cordial your supervisor is, you shouldn’t share your personal life to them. Sharing too much is never appreciated or valued. If you assume that you are the only one with issues, your own employer might benefit from counselling. However, they must do their tasks, therefore they are not concerned with your personal life unless it is compromising the quality of your work.
Rule 3
Keep quiet and observe; only talk when necessary
It is ideal for an employee to watch carefully, listen more, and only talk when absolutely necessary. You’ll eventually realise that even your employer is attentive to the job of the more quiet and diligent employee. Be wise if you want to impress your supervisor and become friends with him or her.
Rule 4
No Gossip
Please! If you don’t gossip, especially about your own co-workers with your employer, you’ll gain respect. Some employers may happily allow you to be informed of what is going on, but you should be aware that conversations are more like Chinese whispers and that gossip never stays in one place. You will ultimately be the one who is questioned.
