Career
The mid to late ’90s were a golden age for Silkk’s rap career. First, he inked a deal with Priority and released his self-titled debut album, “The Shocker.” His stage name was changed from “Silkk” to “Silkk the Shocker” after this album was released. Silkk worked with several famous rappers in the years that followed, including as Mystikal and Mia X. He was also significantly involved with the band TRU, performing on the album “True 2 da Game.”
Silkk appeared on the 1998 smash single “Make ‘Em Say Uhh!” by Master P. He was unquestionably famous after this, and his success only increased from there. “It Ain’t My Fault,” a record produced in partnership with Mystikal, was the next major collaboration. His fame has endured in large part due to this song, which was among his most commercially successful. Keeping up the good job, Silkk collaborated with Destiny’s Child on the song “Just Be Straight with Me.” In addition to his other commitments that year, Silkk managed to include an appearance on Mya’s smash single “Movin’ On” from her self-titled first album. The period also saw the release of “Charge It 2 Da Game,” another hit that did well on the charts and eventually reached platinum status.
Silkk the Shocker made his solo debut with 1999’s “Made Man.” Hits like “Somebody Like Me” and “It Ain’t My Fault 2” from this album may be heard on popular music networks like BET and MTV. Two of Silkk’s biggest hits ever, it became obvious later on. “Made Man,” which included Mya, Mystika, and Silkk, was a commercial success. The platinum certification, however, ran counter to the generally unimpressive critical feedback.
A 2011 album titled “My World, My Way” was Silkk’s resolute attempt to keep producing. “He Did That” and “That’s Cool,” two of the album’s singles, did fair on the charts. Silkk was an album collaborator, as were Mac and Trina. “Based on a True Story,” his 2004 follow-up, was also a commercial failure.
In 2010, following a period of relative silence, Silkk the Shocker uploaded a freestyle verse to YouTube. This was followed not long after by the debut of his mixtape, “All I Do Is Win.” At the same time that Shocker signed with Romeo’s No Limit Forever Records label, he collaborated with his nephew. At this time, he also revealed that he was penning the title track for his upcoming album, “Incredible.”
Silkk dropped several singles from his forthcoming album throughout the course of the following several years. Part of this set was “Don’t Give Up,” and another was “We Ain’t Even Trippin.” During the middle of the 2010s, Silkk’s YouTube activity skyrocketed, and the artist even used the site to unveil a new track titled “Business.” The in-house producer of No Limit Forever, BlaqNmilD, was featured on this track. His video for the song “We Ain’t Even Trippin” was uploaded to YouTube later that year. Three songs later that year, off the album “Incredible,” he dropped “Business.”
