Rituals of Swaminarayan Jayanti
- On the Swaminarayan Jayanti day, devotees observe nirjala upvaas (fasting without taking water).
- The entirety of the day is commemorated by listening to accounts of Swaminarayan’s life, reading scriptures, and singing kirtans.
- On this day, at 10.10 p.m. — the time of incarnation — all temples (mandirs) dedicated to Him perform a ‘arati’ of the child form of Swaminarayan.
- They think that the Lord himself will come to Earth to bless their followers, therefore they set an idol of him in the cradle and adorn it to offer him a good greeting.
Significance of Swaminarayan Jayanti
