Authorities reacted to reports of a surfer being attacked near Mālaekahana Beach on Oahu’s North Shore shortly before 1 p.m. local time, according to Shayne Enright of the Honolulu Emergency Services Department, who confirmed the incident during a press conference.

The irrepressibly gregarious Perry was adored by anyone who crossed his path, according to Kurt Lager, the acting chief of Honolulu Ocean Safety.

A statement was also issued by the World Surf League, expressing their profound sadness over the loss of a cherished icon in the surf community yesterday. Tragically, Tamayo Perry, a famous lifeguard and surfer, lost his battle with shark bite injuries sustained on Oahu’s eastern shore.
