Sorrell Booke played the role of the corrupt county commissioner Boss Hogg, and the other actors in the cast were Denver Pyle, Ben Jones, James Best, and Booke.

Based on the 1979 film “Moonrunners,” which portrayed a Southern bootlegger family, “The Dukes of Hazzard” ran for seven seasons and was a huge success. Wopat later appeared in the live-action series’s spawning animated Saturday morning series “The Dukes,” as well as the 1983 and 1984 TV movies “The Dukes of Hazzard: Reunion!” and “The Dukes of Hazzard: Hazzard in Hollywood.”

Wopat served as a guest star on “The Dukes of Hazzard” and “Fantasy Island” while he was on ABC. It wasn’t until 1988 that he landed his next major role, as the lead in the titular CBS series “Blue Skies.” In 1989, Wopat had a starring role on “Peaceable Kingdom,” a CBS series that didn’t last long. In 1995, he started a longer-running role on the sitcom “Cybill,” as Jeff Robbins, the first husband of the title character. Wopat played the part from its premiere in 1996 through all four seasons that followed. Between those two episodes, he appeared as a guest star on the hit American comedy “Home Improvement.”

Wopat had guest appearances in a couple of shows in the early 2000s, including “All My Children” and the legal drama “100 Centre Street.” A subsequent appearance on “Smallville” brought him back together with his “Dukes of Hazzard” co-star John Schneider. Wopat then went on to appear in an episode of “Standoff” on Fox, as well as the TV movies “Taking Chance” and “The Hive.” He appeared in reoccurring roles as Sheriff Jim Wilkins on the crime drama Western “Longmire” from 2012 to 2017. Other works by Wopat include “Lovestruck: The Musical” for television, as well as episodes of “Elementary” and “The Blacklist.”

Wopat finally made his big film debut in the new millennium after decades of acting on television. Wopat cameoed as a dentist in the 2015 love comedy “All in Time.” The following year, in the drama “Fair Haven,” he starred as the emotionally detached father of a gay young man, landing him one of his most significant film roles to date. Wopat went on to star in country action flick “Country Line” and guest star in comedic picture “Lost Cat Corona.” Two sequels later, he was back in the character he had in the second picture.

Wopat has an extensive acting resume that includes television, movies, and stage performances, the most of which have been musicals. Beginning in 1977 with a replacement role in “I Love My Wife,” he went on to play similar roles in “City of Angels” and “Guys and Dolls.” He played Billy Bigelow in a 1981 Michigan staging of “Carousel.” Wopat went on to win a Tony Award nomination in 1999 for his work in the opening cast of the Broadway production of “Annie Get Your Gun.” Notable revivals that he later appeared in included “Chicago” and “42nd Street.”
