While high school football hero Warren Beatty was also a film buff who developed an interest in the medium on many trips to the movies with his sister. Upon finishing high school, he declined multiple football scholarships to attend Northwestern University and instead focused on his liberal arts education. He left college after just one year to pursue acting classes at Stella Adler’s Studio of Acting. Beatty got his start in the industry doing little parts on television in shows like Studio One(1957), Kraft Television Theater(1957), and The many loves of Dobie Gillis (1959–1960).

The Splendor in the Grass (1961), the actor’s first feature picture, was a smashing success at the box office and garnered four Oscar nominations and the Golden Globe for New Star of the Year. After that, she went on to star in a number of films, including Mrs. Stone’s Roman Spring(1961), Lilith(1963), Mickey One(1965), and Kaleidoscope (1966).
