An American comedian, writer, producer, and director, Neal Brennan has worked on a number of films and TV shows. Not only that, but he does voice acting as well. He became famous after he and Dave Chappelle co-created and co-wrote the sketch series Spectacle de Chappelle. The first episode aired in January 2003 on Comedy Central, and the show continued for another two years. Brennan has directed and written for a number of successful comedy series and advertisements. Since2016, the gifted actor has been a contributor to Trevor Noah and The Daily Show.
What is Neal Brennan’s Age?
Neal Brennan came into this world on October 19, 1973, in the Pennsylvania town of Villanova. He spent his formative years there until his family relocated to Wilmette, Illinois in 1978. With Irish Catholic ancestry, he is the youngest of ten children born to his parents. Even at a young age, Brennan’s comic abilities were apparent, and he had five elder brothers who were just as good. At the tender age of eight, he began putting on shows for his fellow students. As a teenager, he devoted a great deal of time to studying stand-up comedy on television.
It was while Brennan was a high school student that his older brother Kevin Brennan began performing stand-up comedy, and he went on to headline shows at the legendary Improv in New York. When Brennan was a little girl, she wanted to be an actress after seeing her brother perform.
Career
He attended film school at New York University after graduating from high school, but he dropped out the next year. Afterwards, he landed a job as a doorman at Manhattan’s Greenwich Village’s Boston Comedy Club. During his tenure there, he befriended Dave Chappelle, a frequent performer at the club.
Neal Brennan has had six months of experience as a doorman and has had the opportunity to truly shine at the club. The audience did not warm to his debut performance, so he took a five-year hiatus from stand-up. He started penning pieces for films, television series, game shows, and periodicals while he rested from performing live.
The Chappelle Show, a comedy series created by Brennan and his longtime buddy David Chappelle, debuted on Comedy Central in January 2003. Production on the show began in 2001. He was nominated for three 2004 Emmys for his role on the show as writer, director, and producer. After three seasons, the show canceled due to Chapelle’s April 2005 departure.
The recognition Brennan received while filming Spectacle de Chappelle was a huge boon to his career. His previous work includes the comedic picture The Property (2009) and the 2006 television movie Absolutely Brilliant, which he co-wrote and directed. When the multi-talented performer returned to stand-up comedy in 1997, he kept up his regular performances around the country, including in the Los Angeles region. He was a writer for the 83rd Academy Awards and helped with Seth Meyers’ 2011 White House Correspondents’ Dinner speech, among other comedic pieces.
Along with fellow comedians Moshe Kashe and DJ Douggpound, he also co-hosted the 2011–2016 podcast The Champs. In 2013, he oversaw the direction of ten episodes of Inside Amy Schumer, the comedy series created by Amy Schumer herself. Since2016, when she debuted as “Neal Trevor’s Friend,” Brennan has been a frequent contributor to The Daily Show. Brennan starred in the 2015 Los Angeles comedy special 3 Mics, which Netflix aired in 2017.
