Career

Wylde took over lead guitar duties for Ozzy Osbourne in the late ’80s, when Jake E. Lee left the band. The Gibson Les Paul Custom guitars that had his distinctive black-and-white bull’s-eye painting quickly became legendary. Duets between Wylde and Osbourne began with 1988’s “No Rest for the Wicked.” Following that, he made appearances on “Just Say Ozzy” (1990), “No More Tears” (1991), and “Live & Loud” (1993), all of which were live albums.

After 1995’s “Ozzmosis,” Joe Holmes took over as Ozzy’s lead guitarist, replacing Wylde. He made a triumphant return in 2001 with the release of “Down to Earth,” and again in 2002 with the live album “Live at Budokan.” Wylde has since made guest appearances on “Black Rain” and “Patient Number 9″—both albums by Ozzy—. In addition to performing with Ozzy and Friends in 2012, he was a member of Ozzy’s band for a few performances in 2017 during his summer tour.

While on tour with Ozzy Osbourne in 1991, Wylde, White Lion’s James LoMenzo, and Greg D’Angelo established the side group Pride & Glory. The group broke up in 1994 after releasing an album of the same name. At the Whisky a Go Go in Hollywood, California, Pride & Glory got back together for a special reunion performance in early 1998.

Black Label Society was Wylde’s heavy metal band from 1998 forward. He not only sings lead, plays guitar, and produces and composes music for the band. In 1998, Black Label Society unleashed their first studio album, “Sonic Brew,” in Japan; the following year, it made its American premiere. The band’s second studio album, “Stronger Than Death,” came out in the year 2000. “Alcohol Fueled Brewtality Live!! +5”, a live album recorded at the Troubadour in West Hollywood, followed in early 2001. The following albums were released: “1919 Eternal,” “Hangover Music Vol. VI,” “Shot to Hell,” “The Song Remains Not the Same,” and “Catacombs of the Black Vatican.” Black Label Society’s “Doom Crew Inc.” was released in 2021.

With 1996’s “Book of Shadows,” Wylde debuted as a solo artist. The CD showcases his softer, more acoustic side, in contrast to his work with Black Label Society and Ozzy Osbourne. After waiting twenty years, Wylde finally released “Book of Shadows II,” his second solo album.
